Confirm ATOL or non-flight package protection for the exact booking. The merchant takes payment and handles fulfilment, changes and refunds.
Confirm the travel company is an ATOL holder, check that the specific booking is ATOL protected, and expect an ATOL Certificate as soon as the first payment is accepted. The certificate identifies what and who is protected.
Ask the merchant how it protects your money if it fails. An ABTA member may use an ABTA bond, another approved bond, insurance or a trust account. ABTA membership is not a blanket promise that every standalone service is financially protected.
A flight, hotel, car or activity bought on its own may not have package protection. Read the merchant's checkout and terms, and do not infer protection from a logo on a comparison page.
