Card rates in a Brazilian supermarket are usually closer to mid-market than a UK airport desk. The expensive mistake is dynamic currency conversion on the keypad while you are holding a toddler.
Always pay in reais. Use the converter on this site, then add typical UK card fees if your bank still charges them.
